Built on 30 years of sleep and circadian science. We fit your sleep to your shift schedule.
Why it matters
Research links short or irregular sleep with fatigue, low mood and a higher risk of dementia, and quick turnarounds between shifts with more injuries. Sleep experts agree that regular sleep times matter for health, safety and performance (see the studies). The good news: the habits that protect sleep can be learned.
We read your own nights, then time your sleep, light and meals around your shifts. Sleep coaching and education, not a medical diagnosis.
It has 10 lessons and about 6½ hours of video, with a workbook for each lesson. You have up to 28 days to finish. It costs C$495 (Canadian dollars).
Your shift schedule decides when you can sleep. The course teaches how your body clock drives sleep, and what to change first: the timing of light, sleep, meals and naps around your shifts. It covers circadian rhythms, why you can’t sleep, sleep hygiene, stress and drugs, chronobiotics, fixing a broken clock, and promoting circadian regulation at work.
Results may vary depending on the changes you’re ready to make.
Surviving Shift Work® is funded by APBC (CUPE 873) for its members: BC paramedics and emergency dispatchers, and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) staff, can take the full course free. Enrol through the APBC members area with your APBC or BCEHS email.
APBC has worked with fatigue experts since 2017. In 2018 it helped develop a two-day training program with Dr. Landry, piloted with key leaders including the employer, and Dr. Landry built the online course from it.
The course teaches you the method. If you’d rather have Dr. Landry read your own nights, start with the Advanced Sleep Assessment below ($250). Sleep coaching and education, not a medical diagnosis. If you snore loudly, wake up gasping, or feel exhausted all the time, talk to your doctor first.
